9:00am- 12:00pm
Ages 5+
6 sessions on Wednesdays (May 7, May 14, May, 21, May, 28, June 4, June 11)
STEAM Stations Workshop Series; Integrates STEAM, in a hands-on environment, learners are empowered to explore, innovate, and thrive in an ever-evolving world.
STEAM Stations (somasteam.weebly.com) nurtures creativity, inspires lifelong learning, and offers students the opportunity to learn skills needed to thrive.
Each workshop day will teach at least 3 different concepts and have corresponding experiments, games and activities.
Students will:
- build aerodynamic structures that can be recreated with household items
- compare real plant and flower seeds and planting them to explore the concepts of adaptations
- conduct an exothermic chemical reaction experiment; expansion, 3 states of matter, sublimation
- create a non-newtonian fluid to study the physical properties
-explore osmosis with a physics experiment with water, color, crystallization
- learn about structures and building and the science of shapes with an engineering activity building structures
- engage in activities and games that make topics like habitats and echolocation tangible
- develop extraction and pipetting skills
-learn about science-ware; identification and uses
- compare imperial and metric systems in their scientific methods
- learn about ratios, mathematical structuring through paper folding techniques
All materials are provided and the workshop is fully guided.
Grown ups are welcome to stay and observe, and depending on the activity, may be welcome to help! Or grown ups can also drop off, enjoy the morning, and come back (pick up at 12pm).
We ask that drop off be between 8:45 and 9am and pick up be between 11:45-12pm.
